Abstract
The background of compilation of Yulyang-Seshigi edited in 18th century, is closely related to the process of forming urban culture based on the financial power of Seoul at that time. With the influx of a commercial capital, the increase of the population, and the change in distribution structure, Seoul had been changed into significantly different rural life style. Together with this, with the deepening of internal specialization of people, KyungWha-SaJok having been residing in Seoul and its vicinity, generation after generation, had formed their own lifestyle and independent academic style. They had strengthened par?? ticular lineage-oriented participation in politics, done a little networking, and specialized their own existence and authority from daily life to ceremony. During the process, they came to put the value even in daily life such as folk customs, and customs, which they had not been interested in, before. In particular, Mae-soon Kim who had exchanges with the royal court as a close subject compiled Yulyang-Seshigi, which includes the court customs. Finally, the background of compilation of Yulyang-Seshigi can be said to be based on the combination between the pride as Seoul distinguished family and the current of the times. Yulyang-Seshigi is composed of a total of 80 items, with 40 for folk customs, 30 for the court customs, and the rest for treating food in particular, the court customs attract the keen attention. According to the story, when the king was presented presents, he granted them to trusted or close subjects, showing that KyungWha-SaJok, particularly, Nolons life style is closely related to the court customs. In addition it shows Mae-soon Kims pride as distinguished family and the sense of privilege and discrimination in his mind.
